AUDITIONS! AUDITIONS! AUDITIONS!

Audition Notice

Enchanted April
Directed by Teresa Thuman

February 2 and 3, 2013 from 1-4 each day.
No appointment necessary. Actors will be seen in the order they arrive.

PLEASE PREPARE- one contemporary monologue (1-2 minutes)
You will be asked to read something in dialect (standard British) at the auditions, as well.

Rehearsals will begin in early March. Performances are April 12-May 5, 2013.

“The kind of play that reminds you of why you love theatre!”- Variety

When two frustrated London housewives decide to rent a villa in Italy for a holiday away from their bleak marriages, they recruit two very different English women to share the cost and the experience. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four bloom again—rediscovering themselves in ways that they—and we—could never have expected.

Any questions? Please contact Kevin Harris by clicking HERE.

Charlotte Wilkins - Lotty - 30's, dowdy, childless, fed up, earnest, no social graces, wispy hair, crumpled hat, face puckered with effort and fear, instant soul-mate with Rose, shocked by her own daring at planning this adventure as well as the extravagance of it. Finds the Italian setting wildly, ridiculously, divinely beautiful.

Rose Arbuthnot - older than Lotty, 30's, prudish, proper, gives every penny to the poor to make up for her husband's evil books, she can't spend anything on her own enjoyment because of where the money comes from. Says of her husband's writing, "No one should write a book God wouldn't like to read."

Clerk - over 20, male or female

Lady Caroline Dester - 28 - 35, enchantress and society beauty. Single, from a wealthy, well-known family, wants quiet and to escape from the grabbing hands of men. Wants to recover from too much of everything an indulged young woman knows. Has an overbearing mother who "thinks nothing of value could come from the thinking of a beautiful young woman."

Thomas Briggs - 30's, handsome, portraitist who inherited the castle. Uses a hat and cane, nice guy smitten with Caroline at first sight.

Mrs. William Fisher - 65, aggressive dowager, widowed 11 years ago, still wearing black. Offers for her personal references: Archbishop of Canterbury, Pres. of the Royal Academy, Gov. of Bank of England. Lives in the past where eminent Victorians such as Tennyson and Browning were family friends. Walks with a cane and wants only to sit in the sun and remember.

Domenico - 30+, Italian speaking - caretaker of the castle

Francesca - 30+, Italian speaking- housekeeper for the castle

Mellersh Wilkins - 35-45, discreet family solicitor, forceful, top-hatted, frock-coated, respectable, with a high opinion of himself. "Needing an airing" according to Lotty, his wife. Thrifty except where his food is concerned.

Frederick Arbuthnot - (a.k.a. Ferdinand Arrundel) - 35-45, writer of successful, salacious, biographies of royalty: Cleopatra, du' Barry. He writes under a pseudonym to respect his wife's sensibilities. Spends most of his time away from her and knows Lady Caroline very well in his "other life."

We're getting ready for TECH!

Good afternoon friends of the Little Theatre,

As many of you know, we have a pretty intense schedule at the Little Theatre. We are proud that- because of the incredible work of our volunteer and staff- we are able to present quality theatrical entertainment to the community on 44 weekends out of the year!

So, that begs the question: what are we doing on those other eight weeks?

Director Lisa Woske pointing at something

This weekend is one of our "weeks off,", however, things are more busy than ever as we prepare for technical rehearsals for It's a Wonderful Life. For the last several weeks, director Lisa Woske and her cast/crew have been putting the play together. This weekend, it's time to add in all of the technical elements: light, sets, costumes, and sound. Designers have been working for weeks to get everything ready to get onstage. This is the weekend that cast and crew figure it all out and the show begins to reveal itself to the theatre.

Putting a production together requires hundred of hours of work by our volunteers and staff. We can't wait to see this timeless American classic- It's a Wonderful Life!- come to life on our stage. Get your tickets HERE.

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Sunset Terrace Welcomes Little Theatre

The latest assignment for the Little Theatre speakers bureau was November 4 at the Sunset Terrace Neighborhood Association's annual meeting in Los Osos.  There were approximately 40 members in attendance, and they were a very positive audience.

Besides getting to share information about the Little Theatre, I got a great lunch!  Thanks go to association president Marge Castle for the kind invitation to be part of the group's program.

Sharing why we're called a "Little Theatre" with members of the Sunset Terrace Neighborhood Association.

Middle of the week actor worship- check out what else Dan Conner can do!

Good afternoon friends of the Little Theatre,

It's that time of the week again- let's take a closer look at an artist who has made an entire career of  playing nice guys. (Some of them end up chopping people's heads off, but, they sure are sweet before that.) Rosanne's better half himself: John Goodman.

Click HERE to check out this swanky Foot Locker commercial Goodman destroys in 1981.

Too shoe-centered? Click HERE to check out Goodman's original audition for Rosanne.

Not sentimental enough for you? Click HERE to see Goodman talk about his experience on Rosanne and see some great clips for the classic show.

To television-centered for you? Click HERE to hear Goodman sing this great Roger Miller songs from the Tony Award-Winning musical Big River. (BONUS- this clip shows you exactly what you shouldn't do when you put together a YouTube video. It's fabulously terrible, but the song is great.)

Not a theatre fan? See some of Goodman's greatest collaborations with the Coen brothers below:
