TAKE ME OUT packs the house, PICASSO enters tech, FROST/NIXON begins rehearsals, and AFTER HOURS @SLOTHEATRE is coming! This week at the Little Theatre!

Good morning friends of the Little Theatre,

What a fantastic opening of Ubu's Other Shoe's 11th anniversary season! Take Me Out, directed by Daniel Freeman, played to packed house this weekend. Friday night's audience participated in a wonderful talkback with the cast and director. Thank you to everyone who has supported staged reading at the Little Theatre over the last decade; we have 8 more incredible plays remaining in the 2014-2015 Ubu's Other Shoe season. Click HERE to see what's coming up!

The Little Theatre's 2nd season show, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, opens in less than 2 weeks! This hilarious comedy, hatched from the brilliant comedic mind of Steve Martin, plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune as Picasso and Einstein muse on the century's achievements and prospects as well as other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness. Director Suzy Newman leads a remarkable cast- you do not want to miss this one! Make sure your seats are guaranteed by clicking HERE.

Ubu's Other Shoe is following up the hugely popular Take Me Out with Peter Morgan's award-winning play, Frost/Nixon, directed by David Norum. British talk-show host David Frost has become a lowbrow laughing-stock. Richard M. Nixon has just resigned the United States presidency in total disgrace over Vietnam and the Watergate scandal. Determined to resurrect his career, Frost risks everything on a series of in-depth interviews in order to extract an apology from Nixon. The cagey Nixon, however, is equally bent on redeeming himself in his nation's eyes. In the television age, image is king, and both men are desperate to outtalk and upstage each other as the cameras roll. The result is the interview that sealed a president's legacy. Frost/Nixon plays for two performances only and will sell out. Get your tickets today by clicking HERE.

For over four years the Little Theatre has been hosting NO SHAME THEATRE, a celebration of original work on our stage. This season, we are proud to present an all-new series for our community: AfterHours@slotheatre! This 5-show season begins with Maddy Sinclair's hilarious original one-woman show, Why Am I Telling You This? Looking for something new and edgy onstage? Look no further! Get your tickets for Why Am I Telling You This? by clicking HERE. (This production is for mature audiences.)

Thank you for your ongoing support of our organization! Have a wonderful week, everyone!

New UBU Season starts Friday with TAKE ME OUT, then PICASSO and EINSTEIN walk into a bar, NO SHAME hits on Friday, and have you heard about AFTER HOURS?

That's right, the 11th Season of Ubu's Other Shoe starts NOW!  Or Friday, actually. Director Daniel Freeman has put together an awesome cast for a staged reading of the 2003 Tony Award Winning Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg.  If you haven't already subscribed to our Ubu Season, do it NOW! You'll be guaranteed nine evenings of dynamic, thought-provoking, award-winning plays for just $60. Click HERE to purchase all NINE (that's right, 9!) "Broadway 21st Century Comes to SLO" Ubu's Other Shoe Staged Readings OR you can click HERE to purchase individual seats for Take Me Out this weekend for just $10 each. The choice is yours... but trust me, buy the whole season. It's totally worth it.

Opening October 10th is the second in our series of FIVE regular season shows PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE by actor, comedian and author Steve Martin. Yes, THAT Steve Martin. The story goes like this:  Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso (and a host of other characters) meet in a Parisian bar (the Lapin Agile) in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. The result? Hilarious! Director Suzy Newman has put together a fabulous cast for this wonderful, absurdist comedy and you're going to love it. Click HERE to see the cast list and get more info about the show.

And once again, if you want to come see PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, you have a choice. You can click HERE to become a season subscriber for all FOUR (4) remaining season shows for just $90 ($77 senior/student) OR you can click HERE to buy your tickets for PICASSO only. I'm not going to tell you which you should do... well, yes I am. The subscription price is a MUCH better deal, plus then you're guaranteed seats to THE 25TH ANNUAL SPELLING BEE, TIME STANDS STILL and THE MUSIC MAN!  Do it. You won't be sorry.

And leave us not forget NO SHAME SEPTEMBER!  Come on out this Friday for some unique, original, funny, touching, FREE, sometimes awful, sometimes amazing, live, local theatre this Friday night. Doors open at 9:30 pm (immediately following TAKE ME OUT) script submissions begin at 10 pm and the show starts at 10:30 pm. The show is free, the bar is open for business, and the laughs are on us, so come on down and enjoy NO SHAME!

Just one more thing before I go!  Mark your calendars for the premiere of our new late night comedy series AFTER HOURS @slotheatre.  Opening on October 17th will be Maddy Sinclair, performing in her outrageous one-woman show WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS?  And of course, once again you've still got that choice I've been telling you about.  You can click HERE to buy all FIVE (5) After Hours shows in our inaugural season for just $70 OR you can click HERE to buy tickets for this show only at $20 each. The choice is yours, but you do know it's always better to buy in bulk, right?

And when I say late-night, I mean 9:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 7 pm on Sundays. Come on...you can stay awake that long, right?

And next time you're dusting off that check-book or pulling out that credit card to buy tickets to a show, think about making a donation to the Little Theatre as well.  Did you know that your ticket purchase covers only about 65% of what you see on stage? Just imagine a show with only a third of a set, or half the costumes, or having lights and sound running just two-thirds of the time! Your generous donations are what will keep your community theatre performing at 100% capacity on 45 out of 52 weekends this year. Just sayin'. It's tax deductible and we really appreciate it. You can click HERE to find out about the many benefits of membership and you can click HERE to make your donation today. Thanks for your support.

Hope to see you at Take Me Out this weekend!

Our UBU SEASON begins next week with TAKE ME OUT, GOOD PEOPLE is a hot ticket, ACT announces a winter show, and NO SHAME next Friday!

Another opening, another show!  Next Friday, our Ubu's Other Shoe Staged Reading series kicks off their 2014/15 Season with Richard Greenberg's Take Me Out, directed by Daniel Freeman and featuring the talents of Greg Gorrindo, Mike Mesker, Leonard Flippen, Nathan Emmons, Cory Schonauer, Douglas Simmons, Keith Stanfield, Jorge Manly Gil and Terry Clark.

by Richard Greenberg
3 performances only!
Friday, September 26 @ 7 pm
Saturday, September 27 @ 2 pm & 7PM

Winner of the 2003 Tony Award for Best Play, Take Me Out is a story about baseball and the tensions that are found both on and off the field. Click HERE for more information about the show and to purchase your tickets today.

Last season, our staged readings were so popular that they were often over-sold and our open seating plan (no assigned seats) was a bit of a problem. This season...no problem!  Seats are now RESERVED for all of our Ubu's Other Shoe Staged Readings, so your seats are guaranteed! Want to guarantee your seats for all nine (9!!) staged readings this year? You can still purchase an Ubu's Other Shoe Season Subscription for just $60. That's a $30 savings over single ticket prices! Click HERE to purchase your UBU subscription today!

GOOD PEOPLE is the hottest ticket in town this weekend, but you can still get in to see this great show, we promise! You really don't want to miss this critically-acclaimed season opening show at the Little Theatre. Great seats are still available for our Saturday matinee performance at 2 pm on September 20. We will also have a waiting list at the door for Friday and Saturday nights and our Sunday matinee performance. If you show up, we'll find a way to get you in the door! CLICK HERE to see seating availability and to order online.

Our Academy of Creative Theatre is now gearing up for their winter production of The Secret Garden. Director Shelagh Garren will be looking for some talented young actors, ages 9-18, at auditions on October 14 and 16 right here at the Little Theatre. The show will take the stage January 9-25, 2015. So, if you have kids or grandkids, nephews, nieces or neighbors, OR if you just KNOW a local kid who might like to be a part of a fully-staged production at the Little Theatre, bring 'em on down!  Audition information can be found HERE on our website and tickets will be available for purchase very soon.

It's going to be tough to say goodbye to this one. I haven't performed in a fully-staged production in over two years and it's been a lot of fun. If you saw it, I really hope you enjoyed it. And if you haven't seen it, you'd better get over here this weekend before it's gone forever. Nope, there won't be a video you can watch afterwards. You can't capture LIVE theatre on the small screen. It's a communal experience. It takes a live audience to complete the "circuit" so the electricity can really flow. It's magical when it works. And Good People works.

And just before I go, I gotta give a shout-out to NO SHAME SEPTEMBER! If you haven't experienced No Shame Theatre, it's time you did. It's FREE and it's awesome (usually...)

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for Friday, September 26. Doors and bar open at 9:30 pm, submissions at 10 pm and mind-boggling, original theatre begins at 10:30 pm. Click HERE for more information about No Shame and we'll see you there next Friday!

Join us for some live, local, magical theatre on 45 out of 52 weekends this season at your San Luis Obispo Little Theatre. You'll be glad you did!

See you at the theatre!

GOOD PEOPLE is GREAT THEATRE!

"This small cast in a show of small stakes makes this play of everyday people in everyday situations so much more than the sum of its parts." -- Jessica Pena, New Times

"Good People is good theatre. Talent, timing, and tenacity pay off in a production that does what all good theatre, amateur or professional, should do: ask questions that may not have answers, but make us think all the same." -- Charlotte Alexander, Two for the Show Central Coast

"Delving into issues of class, economics and social mobility, the drama examines why some people escape their circumstances and others don’t. Is it luck? Smarts? The support of a family member? As Margie says, 'It’s normal to struggle. Most people struggle.' But is struggle enough?" -- Sarah Linn, Tribune Ticket

GOOD PEOPLE's Director, more AUDITIONS, and a SHOUT OUT for STAGE MANAGERS!

David Carey Foster
For the past four weeks, rehearsals for our season opening production of GOOD PEOPLE have been rolling along, six nights per week, under the skilled hand of David Carey Foster. If you are a long time fans of PCPA or The Great American Melodrama, you may have seen David performing on those stages a few years back. Now, you're more likely to catch him on an episode of The Mentalist or Dexter, or onstage at the La Jolla Playhouse, the Colony Theatre in Los Angeles or at dozens of other regional theatres in the country. This is David's first experience directing a community theatre production, but we hope it won't be the last. Putting together this ambitious production of GOOD PEOPLE under David's expert direction has been an incredible experience for our talented, amateur cast and we can't wait to share it with you. You can read David's thoughts about the show in the Director's Notes from our playbill HERE.

Good People opens this Friday, September 5th and runs through Sunday, September 21st.  CLICK HERE to make your reservations today.

Directors David Norum (FROST/NIXON) and Don Stewart (A CHRISTMAS STORY) are looking for some talented actors to take on our next two shows. Get all the details about auditions for both of these shows on our website HERE and we hope to see you at auditions over the next two weeks.

FROST/NIXON is an Ubu's Other Shoe Staged Reading that won't require a huge rehearsal time commitment, making it a great way to get your feet wet as an actor here at the Little Theatre. Roles are available for 9 men and 2 women and the show runs for two days only, October 21-22. Powerful script, great director. Gonna be a great show!

A CHRISTMAS STORY will be a great way to spend the holidays onstage! Roles are available for 5 children and 4 adults, so you can bring the whole family down for auditions! The show will run December 5-21. If you're not familiar with the story that has become a holiday viewing tradition for thousands of families, check out a clip of the popular film version above and "don't shoot your eye out!"

Do you think you'd enjoy being part of a Little Theatre production backstage?  The Little Theatre is always looking for people to work behind the scenes on sets, lighting, stage crew, props, costumes and STAGE MANAGEMENT! If you're calm, cool and collected under pressure, like to spend your weekends with theatre folk and enjoy being one of those magical people who can make everything run smoothly, mark your calendars for our STAGE MANAGEMENT TRAINING on Sunday, September 28th at 1 pm. Watch this BLOG and our WEBSITE  for more information or EMAIL Kevin Harris to sign up today!

Gotta run now. Our final dress rehearsal for GOOD PEOPLE is tonight and there is much to be done before opening night on Friday! Hope to see you at the Little Theatre very soon - have a great week!
