CAPSLO's TEEN MONOLOGUES, Albee's A DELICATE BALANCE and A CHORUS LINE IS COMING!

This morning, the Little Theatre lobby, patio and theatre were full to bursting with teenagers, both onstage and in the audience. Teen Monologues had taken over the building once again. Now in their 12th year, the Teen Monologues are directed by John Battalino and sponsored by the Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo (CAPSLO). Since 2003, the Little Theatre has proudly served as the rehearsal and main performance space for the program which reaches more than 600 students every year.

A description of Teen Monologues from their website:

"Composed as a series of monologues and scenes, Teen Monologues is based on interviews and surveys from local teens and teen parents...This performance reflects the state of teen pregnancy in our community and beyond, moving past facts and statistics and into the emotional undercurrent that thousands of teens are swept into every day."

In June, the student actors will perform Teen Monologues at the plenary session for the annual Office of Adolescent Health conference in Washington DC for an audience of more than 1,000 attendees representing more than 300 federal teen pregnancy prevention grantees. More info HERE.

Just thought I'd share some of the cool stuff that goes on around here when you may not be looking. Thanks to John Battalino and CAPSLO's Francine Levin for creating this incredible program.  Pretty awesome, don't you think?

PROOF closed last weekend and A CHORUS LINE won't open for two more weeks. So, what's a theatre-lover to do in the meantime?  Join us for an Ubu's Other Shoe staged reading this Friday and Saturday, that's what! Directed by Jill Turnbow and featuring an awesome cast (even if I do say so myself...) Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize winning A DELICATE BALANCE is a touching, funny and beautifully written glimpse of upper middle class angst (and more!) in 1967.

"Powerful...A beautiful play filled with humor and compassion, and touched with poetry"
-- New York Daily News

"A brilliant play." -- New York Post

"An evening of theatrical fireworks."
-- The New York Times

Don't miss the seventh installment in our Ubu's Other Shoe series of staged readings this season. Arrive early to ensure your seats and stay late on Friday for a talk-back with the cast. Click HERE for your tickets.

A FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT!

Nuff said. Better get your tickets early!

See you at the theatre this weekend. Until then, stay cool... :)

PROOF's Final 4 Shows, Albee's A DELICATE BALANCE and...A CHORUS LINE is coming soon!

PROOF FINAL WEEKEND
All good things must come to an end. That's what they say, right? Well, I don't care what they say, I'm going to miss this one. And if you haven't seen it yet, you'd better hurry up and get your tickets. Just four performances remain of what many are calling one of the best they've seen in years, and seats are rapidly disappearing!

Do yourself a favor and click HERE to purchase your tickets today. I'll be there Friday night to see it again. It's that good. Hope to see you!

UBU'S UP NEXT!
I won't spend too much more of your time today with my musings, but I do have to tell you about A DELICATE BALANCE. Jill Turnbow directs this amazing play by the legendary Edward Albee. Full disclosure: I get to play the boozing sister-in-law. Having a blast doing it. Albee's language is absolutely incredible. No wonder he won the Pulitzer Prize. Tom Ammon, Diana Daughters, Daniel Freeman, Jo Jackson and Alicia Klein are my amazing fellow cast members. We take the stage on May 2 & 3 at 7 pm for the 7th Ubu's Other Shoe staged reading this season! You can get your tickets right HERE

ONE SINGULAR SENSATION
Need I say more? Gonna be awesome. Get your tickets early. Get your tickets HERE. Do it now, before they're all gone. Here's a VIDEO of the 3,389th performance of A Chorus Line in 1983. Director Michael Bennett brought back over 300 cast members for this Broadway record-breaking performance. The video is a little blurry, but I still got goose bumps watching it.

P.S.  And yes, part of the fun of our production will be seeing how director Zach Johnson makes it all happen on our intimate Little Theatre stage!

NO SHAME THEATRE THIS FRIDAY!
The most exciting, unpredictable night of original theatre on the Central Coast is this Friday night. And did I mention it's FREE?  Lobby and bar open at 9:30 pm, script submissions at 10 pm and then...at 10:30... you never know what's gonna happen!  Read all about it on our website HERE. I'll be there on Friday for No Shame, and I hope you will too.

Have a great weekend!

Announcing the 2014-2015 Season!

It's going to be an all Rodgers & Hammerstein
all Kevin Harris musical extravaganza of a season!

Delight to the sounds of some of your favorite musicals of all time performed by the inimitable "face" of the Little Theatre, the master of musical comedy, the one and only KEVIN HARRIS!

Our fifth season show is still up for discussion, but we're considering...

Or perhaps...

Of course, cutting-edge drama is always good. Perhaps a production of Equus would round out the season a bit more?

Whatever the final decision, we hope you'll join us for a season of ALL Kevin Harris, ALL the time,
ONLY at the Little Theatre!

P.S. Happy April Fool's Day!
